“Four years ago, I retired and moved to Opelika to be near my son. My biggest concern at that time was finding a new home. I knew I wanted the house to have a visually appealing exterior with a unique design and floor plan. My realtor had shown me several houses on a sweltering June afternoon, and I was somewhat depressed as we entered Sawyer Drive and began looking at the next available properties. “In January we decided we wanted to take advantage of the low interest rates and increase our square footage. We wanted to move to Auburn and looked in several areas. All of the houses that were already built were either too much or not on the right lot or we just didn’t like them enough. So, we decided to build. We talked to a builder’s representative that we knew and looked at the model and the choices. All of the things we wanted were extra, of course. And when we asked for colors to choose from we got samples that were beige, and beige and beige. When we asked if we purchased the paint could we go a little deeper the answer was no. I wanted a color in my dining room and that was no. I really didn’t feel good about it but we proceeded and put down earnest money. As we proceeded with our mortgage, because we owned another house, the down payment increased. We asked that the closing costs be added. The representative said the builder didn’t like to do this. I didn’t get the impression that he even asked. I just felt like we weren’t getting any consideration. This was a big deal for us. Still we proceeded. Then one day Joe came running into work and said “come on, Im going to show you a house.” Tori met us there and when we walked in I was overwhelmed. It was beautiful!!!! It looked custom built. We had never seen such beautiful woodwork. The kitchen was incredible and the exceptional workmanship went upstairs too. We have a linen closet like none I have ever seen, especially in a spec house. This house was more than we could have imagined. As you know we signed a contract the next day. Luckily the mortgage went smoothly and we closed on time. We have been in for around two months already and we love coming home to this house. I am still putting it all together and enjoying every minute. Kelly and Ryan, obviously spent a lot of time and a lot of thought building this house and we feel so blessed to be able to live here. Also, we feel like we have made friends.”
